Reporting a verdict you think is wrong
This is the most useful message you can send us, and we would rather have it than not.
Include three things: the exact copy you checked, the industry you had selected, and what you expected instead. The industry matters more than people expect — the same sentence is fine under one rulebook and prohibited under another, so a verdict that looks wrong is often the right answer to a different question.
If a phrase is flagged that should not be, say which rule you believe it falls under. We would rather argue about a citation than quietly widen the list.
The Chrome extension
No right-click option. The item only appears when text is selected. Select the copy first, then right-click it.
Nothing happens, or the badge shows a question mark. No industry has been chosen yet. Open the extension and pick one — it will not guess, because being scanned against the wrong rulebook tells you nothing useful.
The badge shows an exclamation mark. The check could not run. That is deliberately different from a clean result: a scan that never happened is never shown as a pass. Check your connection and try again.
"You've hit today's free check limit." The free allowance is 25 checks a day, counted per internet address, and resets the next day.
The Canva app
It only checked one page. That is the limit, not a bug. Canva gives an app access to the page you are looking at, so a clean result on page one of a carousel says nothing about pages two to five. Every result says "this page" for that reason.
It will not let you press Check. Choose your industry first. Same reason as above.
The checker on this site
A link would not load. Some sites refuse automated requests. Paste the copy itself instead — it is the same engine either way.
An image was not read. Image checks are limited to five a day. Text checks are not affected.
The API
If you are integrating, the reference is at hub.danedigital.org/developers. Keys are issued by hand — email us and say what you are building.
503, "not enabled on this host". You are calling a deployment where the API is switched off. Check the host in the reference.
401. The key is missing or not on the allow-list. Send it as X-API-Key or as a bearer token; both are accepted.
What we do with the copy you check
It is scanned and discarded. We do not store it, log it, or add it to any record, and none of these tools asks you to sign in — so there is no account to connect a check to. The privacy policy says this in full.
What this is not
Every one of these tools is a screening tool, not legal advice. It catches what a reviewer most often catches. It does not read your whole campaign, it does not know your state's rules on top of the federal ones, and it is not a substitute for your compliance officer — who has the last word.
The what it catches page shows real copy and the verdicts the live engine returned, including the ones it lets through.
